Need to Pump Some Iron?

November 21, 2019 Report

Please select a reason

I am someone who tends to have low iron. And I generally know when I need to pump it up, especially when friends tell me I am looking pale. Other signs can include brittle nails, cold hand and feet, fast heart rate, lightheadedness and/or the dreaded fatigue. Ugh.

Iron is freaking important! It helps prevent anemia, forms blood, tranfers oxygen, regulates body temp, improves cognitive function and synthesizes neurotransmitters. It is a big deal to our body functions.

There are good sources of iron in our food options: lean beef, oysters, chicken, turkey. And there are non-meat options, too: dark leafy greens, cashews, beans, baked potato, to name a few. The problem is, we absorb 2-3 times less iron through plants but adding Vitamin C will help with absorption. Think: spinach salad with bell peppers and lemon juice dressing.

Having said that, sometimes we still need a boost. I use this brand because it is easy on the stomach and is junk-free. It is made with maximum absorption in mind; it is soluable and bio-available.

Maybe it's time to pump you up?
