Getting a cold sore and need extra support? Double Strength L-Lysine is worth a try!
November 09, 2019 Report
I started getting a cold sore about 5 days ago and started taking NOW's Double Strength L-Lysine to help get rid of it. By Day 4 the swelling was reduced and it is not tingling and as sore and seems to be on the mend.
For me stress brings on cold sores and I haven't had them in a really long time, so when I started feeling the little bumpy, tingling sensation on my lip, I knew it was the beginning of one. I decided to try the Double Strength L-Lysine as it has 1000 mg rather than the usual 500 mg strength that I've used in the past.
I was a bit concerned about it being a big tablet, but they were easy to swallow with a full glass of water and they seemed to have worked! I would totally recommend trying it if you are susceptible to cold sores. And I'm going to keep on taking it as a prevention too.
Cold sores are caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus infection (HSV). HSV needs the amino acid "arginine" to grow. L-lysine helps prevent the body from absorbing arginine which makes it difficult for HSV to grow and reproduce.
L-lysine is also a precursor to L-carnitine which is needed for fat metabolism and L-lysine is one of our essential amino acids. You must obtain it from your diet or supplement with it as we do not make it in our body.
L-lysine is also needed for connective tissue formation for skin, tendons, and ligaments.
I like the NOW brand as it's non-gmo and it works very well whenever I have a cold sore. I highly recommend the NOW Double Stength 1000 mg L-Lysine if you want faster results when suffering from a cold sore outbreak or for prevention.
Caution: Check with your health care practitioner if pregnant or breastfeeding or if you are following a low protein diet.
